Research Update and Research Nurse

Welcome to Our New Clinical Research Nurse, Lynne Allsop.

We’re delighted to announce that Lynne Allsop has joined the team as our new Clinical Research Nurse. Lynne brings with her over 15 years of research experience, and her expertise will allow us to expand the range of research opportunities available to our patients, including new research intervention studies such as AfLOAT.

The AfLOAT Study is a randomised clinical trial for adult patients aged 65 and over who present in primary care with at least moderate symptoms of uncomplicated lower respiratory tract infection.  Participants from one of our practices will be randomly assigned to receive either antibiotics or a placebo when recruited into the study.

2025/26 marks an important milestone for our Primary Care Network (PCN) as it is the first year our practices have collaborated using a hub-and-spoke model to deliver research centrally. It’s been a fantastic year of learning, growth, and development for all involved.

We are also working closely with other NHS organisations that deliver research within our region. At the heart of our approach is the belief that collaboration, not competition, is key to achieving meaningful progress. By supporting one another, we can continue to enhance the quality and reach of research across our communities, ultimately benefiting all our patients.

We are excited for the future and look forward to the opportunities that 2026/27 will bring to our PCN as we continue to grow and strengthen our research activity.

Please join us in welcoming Lynne to the team and celebrating this exciting next step in our research journey!

Other Research Studies Currently Underway

In addition to AfLOAT, our team is also actively involved in several other exciting research studies, including:

  • Sweet Sensing in Type 2 Diabetes – exploring the relationship between taste perception and diabetes management.
  • Winter Pressures Study – examining capacity challenges and solutions during peak seasonal demand.
  • Antler 75+ – focusing on depression in patients aged 75 and over.

These studies reflect the breadth of research being undertaken across our PCN and our commitment to improving care and outcomes for all our patients.
